It s in the detail - This is a scholarly work on the importance of detail in landscape architecture design and drawing. The book features some of the most highly acclaimed architects and their work, claiming that it is the detail in their design and drawing that has made them the best. The author makes a study of emerging trends from 2001 to the present day found in landscape architecture. Forty recently completed designs are highlighted. For each design there are various colour photographs taken at different angles and detailed drawings, specially commissioned for the book, which include elevation drawings. These are accompanied by construction details and a description. This lends a consistent style to the book. The book is divided into four chapters relating to parks, cultural works, civic works and those on the waterfront. There are designs here that you will instantly recognise such as the famous biomes of The Eden Project and the landscaping of The Thames Barrier Park. Others will be less familiar but still very much of interest. Works have been chosen from around the world, from America to China. Each project, viewed in this way, is a revelation. In addition, there is a directory of details such as lawn, planting, facade or column and also a directory of the landscape architects included. This book is intended for architects, engineers and landscape architects. It is also of interest to landscape gardeners. Those already working in these disciplines will find the book a useful reference, whilst students should find it an inspiration. As a garden designer I found the examples thought-provoking, the buildings of interest and the gardens, where shown, stimulating. This beautifully-produced book could sit happily on many readers shelves.
Excellent! - Excellent, Excellent, Excellent!I previously bought Virginia McLeod s Detail in Contemporary Residential Architecture and was equally as please with this. These are, simply, the best buy in architecture books that I ve made. It shames other books that are of less quality and cost twice the price.A great combination of details, images and texts of many contemporary projects all wrapped up inside a well bound harback book. Also including CAD files of the details on CD. This is an invaluable source of inspiration and technical reference.
A useful resource for design details - Detailing is difficult for young design professionals. College education does not cover enough detail design, the only ways to learn how to develop details are: 1) learn through working experience in design offices, 2) teach yourself by reading good books. Detail in Contemporary Landscape Architecture can alleviate this problem. It is a book on design details, not construction details. It has color interior photos and sections and plans drawn to scale. It can help young design professionals to understand design details by comparing photos to drawings. It is also a good collection of details of 40 well-known projects, which can inspire you to develop your own design details. If you want to really learn more about construction details, you can simply find a good set of construction drawings and reading it word-by-word from beginning to end, and try to understand it. You may need to read the set several times and seek answers from more experienced colleagues to completely understand it. Detail in Contemporary Landscape Architecture has 192 pages. It is a useful resource for design details. Gang Chen, Author of LEED AP Exam Guide & Planting Design Illustrated. LEED AP, AIA
